Our dream is…

…to see how heaven breaks into our lives, our city, and our world.

OUR MISSION

Share - We want to share our lives with people, who are not yet a part of our community.

Inspire - We want to inspire people to follow Jesus.

Grow - We want to help people find their place to grow spiritually.

Serve - We want to serve others.

OUR STRATEGY

As a church, our strategy is very simple: We come together in order to be sent out. We come together in church services, to then be sent out into the world as Communities on Mission. We have two aspects that make up our core strategic focus.

1) CHURCH SERVICES IN PUBLIC SPACES

We meet in theaters, restaurants, cafés, homes for the elderly, and other similar locations to sing together, to pray together, and to hear an encouraging and challenging sermon.

2) COMMUNITIES ON MISSION

Communities on Mission are teams in which the spiritual growth of the group is as important as fulfilling the mission of bringing heaven on earth.

PHILIP ZIMMERMANN - Pastor

"From the beginning, there was always one question that we asked: how can we as a church serve those who are marginalized?”

The next 10 Years: Chapter 02

From the very beginning, the vision of Church in Action has been to see Heaven break into our lives, our city, and our world. In 2008, Philip started the work of Church in Action by taking his team to the local soccer stadium where he would cast his compelling vision. His dream was to see many people involved in the project of bringing Heaven on Earth, for them to personally experience life transformation as they worked together for the good of the city and the world.

In 2010, Cris began the work with his team in the Berliner Pub in Frankfurt. They immediately created social projects benefiting the homeless in the city as well as financing a well in Ethiopia where the pub owner was from. The goal was to create one church in many locations.

Now, after 10 years, the vision and dream remains the same, to see“Heaven on Earth”.

At the same time, we asked ourselves these questions:

  • How can we be good stewards of all that has grown and developed in the last 10 years?

  • Where do we sense that God is leading us personally and as a church?

  • How can we courageously continue to participate in making heaven visible on earth?

  • How can we raise up, train and empower more people to take on responsibility in society and to commit to serving as spiritual leaders?

After weeks of intense discussion and prayer, our goals for the next 10 years with God’s help are:

START AND SUSTAIN 1,000 COMMUNITIES ON MISSION

Currently, we are regularly active in about 46 locations in the Rhein-Main area: cafés, pubs, a theater, restaurants, homes for the elderly, refugee homes, and brothels. For nearly all places of ministry, we have volunteer leaders and teams that are organized into so-called “Communities on Mission” where they are practically and holistically serving the community. In the future, we want to further equip these teams spiritually and see how heaven breaks into even more locations. There are still so many neighborhoods, facilities, subcultures and city blocks where we must go to serve.

10,000 PEOPLE INVOLVED IN “HEAVEN ON EARTH” WEEKLY

Church in Action is not a building, not an event, and not a meeting point. Even though we come together on a regular basis in order to worship together and spend time in community, Church in Action is more a movement than something rigid or static. We dream of seeing 10,000 people, practically living out their faith every week.

TRAINING AND EQUIPPING 200 PASTORS

We currently have 12 people that are enrolled in theological training, of which 8 people are specifically preparing to serve as pastors. Going forward, we want to raise up many more men and women pastors, equipped to serve in the urban context. Our dream is to see God call 200 people, whom we are ready to invest in and train, in order to become ordained pastors, committed to engage in long-term ministry.

SUPPORT PEOPLE IN OTHER MAJOR CITIES IN EUROPE AND ACROSS THE WORLD, SO THAT SIMILAR WORK MAY DEVELOP

For many people across the globe, Church in Action is already an inspiration and model of how to be the church in an urban context. This is largely due to the global impact projects (about 20 per year) and international partnerships that have developed over the past 10 years. In the future, we feel lead to invest time and resources to allow similar work to develop in major cities in Europe and around the world.

Just as we did not know what exactly we were doing 10 years ago, we also don’t have a master plan for the next 10 years. One thing remains the same: We need God’s help and him leading every step of the way!

Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” With this in mind, we entrust our heavenly father with all of our plans and dreams. May He build His Kingdom and may His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Lord’s Prayer)

Yours, Cris and Philip Zimmermann

CRIS ZIMMERMANN - Pastor

"Church in Action excites me because it has actually become a movement. Far beyond the Rhine-Main area, people are committed to a piece of heaven on earth. I think that's awesome! "
